Charles: What keeps you so busy?/Why are you so busy?

Mrs. Lee: My baby (keeps me busy).

Charles: How is your baby?

Mrs. Lee: Okay, but he didn't sleep last night.

Charles: Why not?

Mrs. Lee: I don't know why he cannot sleep.

Charles: Well, babies usually wake up a lot during the night, right?

Mrs. Lee: He woke up at seven o'clock this morning.

Charles: Oh, I see, not during the night?

Mrs. Lee: He went to sleep at ten.

Charles: So he slept (for) nine hours?

Mrs. Lee: No, he sleeps ten minutes and wakes up again!

Charles: Is that normal? What does his doctor say (What does s/he think)?

Mrs. Lee: (thinking) What is "son-tan-guh" in English?

Genie: That means someone made him that way.

Charles: Like who?

Genie: Well, maybe the maid makes him sleep in the daytime?

Charles: Are you home most of the time?

Mrs. Lee: No.

Charles: So, he has a nanny; a person who cares for him when you are not there.

Mrs. Lee: I am home only at night.

  • (He gets up) around five, six, seven, eight, and at nine in the morning. He gets up all (different) hours! It wears me out!

When he wakes up, who goes to take care of him?

  • I do!

How about your husband? Do you share the burden (problem/challenge/difficulty)? Do you take turns?

  • Yes, we take turns! Thank God!

Taking Turns

It's two AM. You're fast alseep and it's dark outside, and inside the quiet house. Suddenly, the silence is tragically broken with the wimpering whine and the subsequent wail of a baby waking up.

You think you are dreaming, but it gets louder and stronger, and your sleep gets weaker. You begin to think, oh, the neighbors! They are so loud. Then you realize, 'I'm a mother!' That's mine! Time to get up and go soothe him.

"It's your turn, Honey!"

"Wah?" responds your husband, pretending to sleep. "I went last time!" Isn't it your turn, Sweety?" I have to get in a few hours to go to the office. Pleaaaaaaaaase!"

So you drag yourself out of the bed. You stagger to the baby's crib. You look at him in the moonlight, and suddenly you realize why you are alive. 'Yeah! It's my turn' you think, 'I get to see you, and I love you!'
